This order from the Supreme Court of India dismisses the appeals challenging India's film and television rules regulating tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship. The court found that no further relief could be granted, as several amendments had been made to the rules since the cases were filed. The amendments included requirements for the mandatory display of anti-tobacco audiovisual disclaimers/health spots/static messages in films and programs depicting tobacco products or their use, a complete ban on tobacco product placement, and other requirements. The regulations were also subsequently extended to to streaming platforms.
This Supreme Court dismissal allows full implementation of the rules, as amended.
