Health Warnings/Messages Features
The law requires combined health messages covering 85% of the front and 100% of the back of all cigarette packaging. On the packaging of other smoked tobacco products, warnings are required to cover 85% of the front and back. Each combined health warnings consists of warning text, a corresponding image, and quitline information, and the same combined warning must appear on both sides of the package. Warning text is printed in white on a black background, and quitline information is printed in black on a yellow background. A total of 14 combined health warnings have been approved. These warnings must appear in equal numbers over a 12-month period.
In addition to the combined health warnings, each pack must display a general warning message on 50% of one lateral side and an information message on 50% of the other lateral side.
Plain packaging is required for all products available for retail sale as of January 5, 2020.
The law meets FCTC Art. 11 with respect to the size and location of the warnings.
There are no smokeless products currently licensed for sale in Turkey. While health warnings appear to be required for all tobacco products under Law No. 4207 (as amended), the 2019 Regulation on the Procedures and Principles Related to the Production Methods, Labeling and Surveillance of Tobacco Products does not specify the warning requirements for smokeless tobacco products.
