Sale of single cigarettes/sticks

Sale of tobacco products via vending machines

The law prohibits the sale of tobacco products through vending machines after the Minister of Health publishes a notification on the prohibition. As of the date of this review, no such notification has been published in the Gazette. Until that time, however, vending machine sales are restricted to places in which persons under the age of 18 years old cannot access the machines.

Because the law restricts vending machine sales in a manner that makes such sales inaccessible to minors, the regulatory status code “Some Restrictions” is given.

The law aligns with FCTC Art. 16 in that it prohibits vending machine sales to minors. To align with FCTC Art. 13 and the FCTC Art. 13 Guidelines, the law should prohibit all vending machine sales of tobacco products as such sales are an inherent form of tobacco advertising and promotion.

Sale of tobacco products via the internet
