E-Cigarette
“E-cigarette” means a tobacco-free item that releases a vapor containing nicotine. An e-cigarette may be a single use version or it may be one that can be recharged with a single-use cartridge. The term e-cigarette can also refer to a “heated tobacco product” consisting of a processed tobacco product that emits an inhaled aerosol produced by heating tobacco without combustion.
Tobacco products
“Tobacco products” mean products made of tobacco or tobacco alternatives, including leaves, leaf extracts such as pipes, and cigarette filters.
The definition of “tobacco products” is significant because it includes tobacco alternatives, which is defined to include e-cigarettes. Thus, e-cigarettes are subject to the regulations contained in Law No. 174.
Tobacco alternative
“Tobacco alternative” means a battery-operated device, generally containing cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor and other chemicals, which turn into a vapor that is inhaled by the smoker, and all materials related to a tobacco product including the electronic water pipe.
The definition of “tobacco alternative” includes e-cigarettes. This is significant because “tobacco products” are defined to include tobacco alternatives, meaning that e-cigarettes are subject to the regulations contained in Law No. 174.
