COMMENTS: Law No. 12-2012 of July 4, 2012 is the primary piece of tobacco control legislation regulating smoke free places, packaging and labeling and tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship.
Decree No. 2018-216 Concerning the Prohibition of Smoking in Places Used by the Public
COMMENTS: Decree No. 2018-216 clarifies the scope of the comprehensive ban on smoking in indoor public places, workplaces, and on public transport. In addition, the decree contains definitions for a number of key terms and specifies duties placed on the persons in charge of smoke free premises.
Decree No. 2018-218 Implementing the Ban on Advertising and Promotion of Tobacco and Its Derived Products and Sale to Minors and By Minors
COMMENTS: Decree No. 2018-218 clarifies the scope of the comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship under Law No. 12-2012. In addition, the decree contains definitions for a number of key terms.
Decree No. 2018-217 Concerning the Packaging and Labeling of Tobacco and Its Derivative Products
COMMENTS: Decree No. 2018-217 contains implementing details for health warnings and messages required to appear on tobacco product packaging. However, an administrative order detailing the exact size, location/placement, and contents of the warnings has not yet been issued.
Order No. 2853 of May 31, 2022 Banning the Manufacture, Import, Distribution, Possession, Sale or Giveaway of Flavor Capsule Cigarettes, Cigarettes with Characterizing Flavors, and Shisha
COMMENTS: Order No. 2853 of May 31, 2022 prohibits flavor capsule cigarettes, cigarettes with characterizing flavors, and waterpipe tobacco (shisha).
