Côte d'Ivoire became a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on November 11, 2010.
Smoke Free Places: Smoking is banned in all indoor public places, all indoor workplaces, and on public transport. The procedures for the implementation of smoke free places are to be defined by regulatory enactment, which have not yet been issued.
Tobacco Advertising, Promotion and Sponsorship: The law broadly bans tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship, but does not explicitly prohibit point of sale product display
Tobacco Packaging and Labeling: Currently, tobacco product packaging must display a text-only warning on one side panel. Once the health warning requirements under Law No. 2019-676 are in effect, packaging will be required to display combined text and picture warnings that occupy no less than 70 percent of the front and back of the package. The procedures for the implementation of packaging and labeling requirements, including health warnings, under Law No. 2019-676 are to be defined by regulatory enactment, which has not yet been issued.
Tobacco Taxation and Prices: The World Health Organization recommends raising tobacco excise taxes so that they account for at least 70 percent of retail prices. Tobacco excise taxes in Côte d'Ivoire are well below these recommendations.
