Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006
COMMENTS: The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 is significant because it authorizes the Commissioner of Food Safety, appointed by each state government, to prohibit in the interest of public health, the manufacture, storage, distribution, or sale of any article of food. Several states have utilized this authority to ban certain forms of smokeless tobacco.
To the best of our knowledge, all laws provided here are in effect as of May 30, 2026 unless otherwise noted.
