Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2007 (SR 2007/39) (as amended)

Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2017 (LI 2017/123)

March 14, 2018
COMMENTS: The Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2017 contain new requirements for health warnings required to appear on tobacco product packaging, as well as implementing details for the standardized packaging of tobacco products. All tobacco products offered for retail sale will be required to have standardized packaging as of June 6, 2018. Once in effect, these regulations will repeal the Smoke-free Environments Regulations 2007 (SR 2007/39).

Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Standardised Packaging) Amendment Act 2016 (Public Act 2016 No. 43)

March 14, 2018
COMMENTS: Once in effect, the Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Standardised Packaging) Amendment Act 2016 will require tobacco products to appear in standardized (plain) packaging. It is to enter into force by March 14, 2018, or sooner should the Governor-General appoint an earlier commencement date. Manufacturers and importers will be required to comply with standardized packaging requirements upon entry into force; distributors will have six weeks to transition; retailers will have 12 weeks to transition. As a result, all products offered for retail sale will be required to have standardized packaging as of June 6, 2018.
